textile forgiveness / 2015
After seeing the damage that the Romanian beggars (both Romanian and from the Roma minority) brought to the country's image within the EU and particularly in France, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Romanian Ministry of Tourism decided to appoint an artist to find a solution to the problem.
Several months passed since I had been first contacted. I waited and waited, thinking what is there to be done. Suddenly it hit me: I decided to use humour in order to relax the tension by joking about Romania's current and past state of affairs.
Thus, I crafted these T-shirts, that were meant to be worn by the Romanian beggars of Paris.
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately started sharing them throughout the Romanian and Roma communities that live in the streets of the French capital, with the help of the Romanian Embassy. Now you can see them everywhere. These are meant to be worn on a daily basis, and changed weekly (since our beggars do not have the means to wash their clothes). The shirts are resupplied monthly.
If you are a Romanian and you think about owning one, try to contact the Romanian Embassy in Paris. They will definitely be willing to help you help them.
