my road / 2012
The series presents portraits of people that I met on the paths of Belgium, from Mennen to Beringen, from the West to the East of Belgium, as I walked 291 km from August to September 2012 (all the distance by foot), during the Sideways festival.
In Romania, in the small villages, everyone grabs a chair and stays in front of their porch, watching people that pass by the main road, while carefully analyzing, debating either the status of others or the future fate of their kids, and who did what. Thus, the road becomes a place of meeting, of reunion, legend and gossip.
Through the series, I try to find similarities in behavior and in relation to the road of the people that I found in the villages of Belgium.
It also represents a photographical overview of the country through the portraits of the encountered.
This project was brought to life thanks to the support given by ICR Bruxelles (the Romanian Cultural Institute from Bruxelles) and Sideways festival.
