16 sounds of Dadaocheng / 2018
The work is a workshop-based and participative art project that questions the success of integration of foreign elements in Romania, focusing on the routes followed by 16 citizens of Taiwan, that move as immigrants after the dissolution of the European Union, in a fictional age (the year 2028).
After the fall of the European Union (2024), Taiwan saw a period of financial difficulty. From an economic point of view, the country is in a coma. Nonetheless, a group of 16 citizens from Taiwan have managed to infiltrate the borders.
From there on, they planned the final act: reaching the South of Romania, where some relatives found jobs for them as farmers. These people have managed to replicate the microchips and the bar-codes. This is where our story begins.
The constructed fiction of the year 2028 puts under the magnifying glass the stories of young citizens of Taipei in the aftermath of a struggle situation, that can also be ending up as a conflict. Imaginary testimonies of young people that never saw war and conflict, will blend past and present in order to best reflect a future, that shall belong to them. They have been the writing force of the project, since in the following years that shall be writing their future and that of the whole country. They have created each a character from scratch. They had to think about a reason and a path that they took from their country towards Romania. They have told their stories, their job occupation, their interest, their family ties and the reasons to leave the country. Maybe conflict / war, maybe financial crisis. Then, they havel crafted a story of the future year 2028. (curators: Hsun-Chen Lin & Yi-Kai Kao; with support from Jing-Liang Jung and Melody Ho)
